UN WOMEN AUSTRALIA
UN Women Australia is the National Committee for UN Women in Australia and is one of 18 National Committees globally.
The National Committees support UN Women through membership programs, raising public awareness of gender and development issues and fundraising for UN Women projects around the world.
Since its inception in 1989, UN Women Australia (formerly UNIFEM Australia) has grown and now includes the National Office in Canberra, as well as UN Women Australia Sub-Committees, IWD Committees and Young UN Women Australia Chapters.
UN Women Australia is an active participant in UN activities relating to gender and development and sends an annual delegation to the UN Commission on the Status of Women including supporting a youth delegate to attend each year.
Our role is to:
* Engage the support of Government in achieving gender equality in partnership with UN Women.
* Raise funds to support programs which achieve gender equality and empower women
* Challenge attitudes which perpetuate gender inequality in Australia and globally.
* Ensure that UN Women Australia is a sustainable, national non-governmental organisation.
